ASTM B117 Evaluation – Salt Spray Resistance

Overview

U-STUCCO™ XPX has been independently tested under ASTM B117-09, Standard Practice for Operating Salt Spray (Fog) Apparatus. This standard simulates severe coastal and marine environments to evaluate how materials withstand corrosion, salt intrusion, and moisture over extended exposure.

Test Methodology

Test Standard:

ASTM B117-09

Duration:

300 hours continuous salt spray exposure

Conditions:

5% salt solution sprayed in a closed chamber at a 15° angle

Specimens:

Three U-STUCCO™ lightweight insulation stucco panels

Procedure:

At the conclusion of 300 hours, samples were rinsed, dried, and inspected for signs of deterioration, including cracking, erosion, discoloration, or surface degradation.

Results

U-STUCCO™ Test Specimens:

Pass—No visible changes detected

  • No softening

  • No cracking

  • No erosion

  • No discoloration

What This Means

ASTM B117 testing confirms that U-STUCCO™ is highly resistant to salt spray and corrosion, making it an ideal protective stucco solution for:

  • Coastal and marine environments

  • Seaside residential and commercial projects

  • Infrastructure exposed to salt air and de-icing salts

  • Durable, long-term exterior cladding in harsh climates

Benefits of ASTM B117 Resistance

  • Protects structures in salt-rich, corrosive environments

  • Maintains long-term durability and finish integrity

  • Reduces maintenance and repair costs

  • Extends service life of exterior walls
